These healthy Cocoa Energy Balls are a hit at our house. I wasn’t sure about this recipe when I saw that they contained Medjool dates. First of all, I am not a huge fan of dates and second I didn’t have a clue what Medjool dates were. Luckily the dates were easy to find at the grocery store! Plus with all the other tasty ingredients you couldn’t even taste them.
I love these Energy Balls because they are healthy and the good news is if you have gluten allergies they are gluten free! They make a great after-school snack and a perfect pre-workout snack. So with a competitive hockey player and a dancer in the house, these don’t last long.
My favourite part is that they are also easy to make. All you have to do is toss all the ingredients, minus the coconut, into your food processor and blend until dough forms.
Then roll into balls and roll into coconut. If you don’t like coconut you could easily skip this step.
Cocoa Energy Balls
1/2 cup almond butter or peanut butter
4 Medjool dates (pitted)
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 cup hemp hearts
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup coconut
Add all ingredients to a food processor and blend until dough forms (minus the coconut). Roll into balls and roll into coconut.
