I made him a birthday cake.
I made him a birthday cake because we wanted to celebrate this beautiful puppy that arrived in our lives last August. This sweet, fun loving and sometimes very stubborn dog has completely captured the heart of everyone who lives in this house.
Yes, even the cats kind of like him, at least they do a pretty good job of tolerating him.
You see until this precious puppy arrived we were a house full of cat lovers; we still are, but now we have embraced the joy of owning a dog. It’s certainly a very different journey bringing a dog home versus a cat. Cat’s are much easier! However, a dog brings something extra special to a home, and unconditional love is at the top of the list.
My desire to own a dog came blasting through my soul unannounced a few years ago. It took me years to convince my hubby to get a dog, but thankfully his love runs deep for us girls, and he caved.
A year later this dog completely won over my husband. They adore each other. I may have wanted the dog, but I believe my hubby needed this dog.
As I mentioned, last August we brought a tiny little ball of energy home. He was so cute and perfect in many ways. However, I truly had no idea how much work this little ball of energy would be. Thankfully I had done my homework and knew the basics of training a puppy. I also had three full weeks to work with him before heading back to work.
He trained quickly, and thanks to my constant attention only peed in the house a couple of times and pooped only once. (Sorry if that’s probably too much information!)
The first few months of training were sometimes tough; I am not going to lie. There were moments, especially when we headed out for walks in the great outdoors where I felt like pulling my hair out. Puppies eat everything … and they completely ignore you when distracted by all the fun outside.
One Year Old
Thankfully almost a year later it’s gotten much easier, and we can enjoy long walks together. We can obtain loose leash walking … unless a rabbit crosses our path and then all bets are off. We are working on “leave it” when he sees a rabbit, but his instincts are strong!
It is a gift to share our lives with this dog. Harry has taught me a great deal, and my heart is so full of joy because I get to wake up and spend my days with my dog by my side.
So it seemed fitting to celebrate our Harry! To shower him with a little extra loving on the day he was born.
My hubby, BBQ’d him a steak, we bought a few presents, decorated the table and I made him his very own cake.
It’s an easy recipe. I found a few recipes online but adapted them to make this crowd pleaser. It really was a crown pleaser as my family also enjoyed these healthy cakes.
